Sustainability at the Christkindlesmarkt

Uwe Niklas

To promote regional business cycles many of the wares are made by traditional regional manufacturers. Even the stalls are made of regional spruce; more than 30 stalls still date back to 1890.

The Christkindlesmarkt has been supplied with regenerative energy from regional hydroelectric plants and photovoltaic power plants since 2012.

All mulled wine dealers work with a reusable cup system. This saves energy and avoids a large number of disposable containers.

The Organic Metropolis Nuremberg was the first German city to join the organic city network “Città del BIO” in December 2006.
