The Lantern Procession – Nuremberg shines
1948 was the first year when children with their lanterns made their way up to the castle. This tradition still lives today, sponsored by the NÜRNBERGER Versicherung and is very popular among all age groups.
Every year the children put their hearts and souls in producing their lanterns and "light artworks", which sparkle in all colors and forms: yellow, green, red and blue – stars, candles, Christmas trees and angels. Parents and teachers join the children along their way.
The procession with around 1.000 pupils starts at the Kaiserstraße, across the Fleischbrücke, to the Main Market Square, passing by the town hall up to the castle, where it terminates.
With the beautiful scenery of the castle in the backdrop, the schoolchildren then stage the Christmas story, along with Christmas songs.
This beautiful tradition has its own very special charm and the atmosphere is absolutely magical. So this is one special event at the Christkindlesmarkt which shouldn't be missed!
The Christkind is usually there leading the procession!
